The Neys – van Hoogstraten Fund promotes socioeconomic research with a gender lens on food security of households and nutritional security of vulnerable groups in a number of countries in Southeast Asia and South Asia.

Thanks to the Neys – van Hoogstraten Fund, MSc and PhD students and postdocs can receive support for costs related to their research. Preference is given to interdisciplinary research and research involving a research institute in the region. A gender lens must be applied in every research project.

Who can apply?

WUR MSc-students, PhD candidates and postdocs can apply when their research meets the objectives of the fund.

Which costs are eligible?

Eligible research costs include:

a) Researcher’s costs: International travel costs to and from the research location; travel and accommodation costs in the country and location of the study.

b) Cost of data collection: travel costs, daily allowances and payment of interviewers, salary and travel costs of a local research assistant.

c) Cost of data analysis: costs of laboratory research, statistical support.

d) Supervision costs: Only for PhD research the travel and accommodation costs of a visit by the WUR supervisor/promoter to the research location during the research.

e) Costs of dissemination results: Upon successful completion of the research, the costs of a local seminar with the stakeholders, a possible contribution to the costs of a publication in an international scientific journal, and/or contribution to the costs of participating in an international conference in the context of presenting the results of the research.

How can I apply?

Applications can be submitted throughout the year. Incoming applications are assessed once a month. Please submit your proposal at least one month before the start of your project.
